Al Gore at the ZFF

The new movie by and with Al Gore, which was premiered at the Zurich Film Festival yesterday, should be mandatory viewing for everyone. Things have gotten a lot worse since the first movie was released 10 years ago and there is still no real political will to solve the problem. Unless we essentially end the use of fossil fuel by 2050, there is not too much hope for human civilization.

You know things have gotten really bad when governments are trying to prevent scientists from learning about climate change. The story about the Deep Space Climate Observatory was news to me. Problems do not go away because we do not know about them and banning science was never very helpful.

The good news is that we can all do something about it. Fighting climate change is legal, relaxing, and saves you money. The only thing you have to do is to stop buying things you do not need and stop travelling unless you have to. A consumer strike frees up time for important stuff, such as spending time with your family or reading a good book. If enough of us manage to liberate ourselves from the chains of materialism, this would have an enormous political impact. I have already started.
